Description

This is a pretty quick concept based on a shot my lovely sister took in the US West coast. I'm pretty happy with it!

Hello NatMonney,

I know there's been some time between me asking you to remind me of writing a critique for this lovely piece of art and you actually reminding me of my promise, but I'm back from my seminar and eager to hit some keys! Where will I begin?

First things first: your level of detail is exemplary! You must have put a lot of time into the process of painting the scenery. If this was a 'Where is Waldo', I would probably need a long time to find him!

You created a really dense and moody atmosphere here. The landscape is flooded with sunlight, yet it looks barren and cold. What Poesque creature must hide in this land? One wonders. It would have been interesting to get an idea of the inhabitants, but focussing on the scenery itself is okay, too.

The one downside to swampy landscapes is that you neither are the first or the last one to paint one, and although it is loaded with lots of details, there are no 'new' things that caught my attention or interest. This is just me being really picky, though, so don't mind it much.

On the upside, though, I find that your technical level of painting is great already. There's always room for improvements, but I would be a hypocrite if I compared you to known fantasy artists. You definetly are on the right track, and I bet you put a lot of effort into following that path - and if you are not.. well, you should be.

There's not much actual advice in this critique, but I do hope I made you look at your work again and look into ways of improving. I am but a humble deviant recognising your awesome painting after all! Always keep on drawing and painting, and eventually you will become successful!

Regards,
Matt
